- The Sunday Telegraph has appointed Kamal Ahmed as business editor. Ahmed will replace Mark Kleinman who is leaving the paper to become business editor at Sky News.
- The Independent has announced a partnership with Tweetminster, a web-based service that allows people to follow MPs and UK politics on Twitter, to launch Livewire, a media utility that uses the power of Twitter to connect people with the politicians, commentators and media stories that shape UK politics.
- The Scotsman’s senior assistant editor, David Lee, is leaving on 31 July to become a freelance media consultant.
- The Herald deputy editor, Jeanette Harkness is leaving to join the Scottish Council for Development and Industry as director of policy and research.
- The Western Morning News has appointed Liz Parks as business editor. Parks will begin the role on 3 August and replaces Emma Corlett, who leaves the paper on 31 July to join regional law firm Bond Pearce from 1 September.
- The Diss Mercury’s senior reporter, Celia Wigg, retired on 17th July. She also wrote for the Eastern Daily Press and Thetford & Watton Times.
- Shropshire Newspapers‘ managing director, Colin Spicer, retired on 24 July after 35 years at the company.
- Morpeth Herald’s Kath Skinner has left; all advertising now goes through Dawn Owens.
- Trinity Mirror’s Media Wales division will launch a new weekly freesheet for Cardiff on 20 August with an expected print run of 52,000. The Echo Extra will replace the Cardiff Post and will look to complement the paid-for South Wales Echo.
- Local News South and Local News northWESTeast will merge to form a single newspaper, Local News Glasgow, from 12 August.
