What do you write about? Anything required! My favourite commissions are anything to do with beauty, health and spas and I also love working for Perfect Wedding – it’s fabulously girly and full of gorgeous jewellery and dresses!

Where are we likely to see your work? Just Google me! The Telegraph stuff ranks the highest but I’ve also been on the features staff at the Western Daily Press and Bristol Evening Post. Magazines = too many to mention but my favourites are Perfect Wedding, Grazia, You (Mail on Sunday), Seven (Telegraph Saturday) and Red.

What’s the most memorable work you’ve done? Writing about the manatees at SeaWorld in Orlando – did a travel piece and an eco piece and the whole trip was fabulous!

What interview or feature would you love the chance to do? I’d love to do more real life pieces, not celebrities but just the average woman and how she overcomes obstacles in her life…we all deal with dramas on a daily basis and people fascinate me!

How would you pay the bills if you weren’t a journalist? I did ballroom and latin dancing from the age of 5 and did my exams to teach when I was 17…but working for a local paper, I already had the journo bug!

If we gave you £1,000, how would you spend it? I’d take my best friends out for a lavish meal, champagne and a night at the casino.

What books are on your bedside table, magazines in your bag, or blogs on your screen? Honestly? Trash lit such as Jilly Cooper and Jackie Collins. Escapist and I love it!

National & regional press news 10/03/10

Northcliffe newspapers the Western Daily Press and the Western Morning News are to merge their subbing operations and be headed by a single editor in chief. The Bristol-based Western Daily Press and the Plymouth-based Western Morning News are to combine their production and content management operations, with production of the Morning News to move to Bristol. Both titles will retain a separate editorial team and editorial content but will undergo a similar redesign. Western Morning News editor Alan Qualtrough will become editor in chief of the two titles, whilst Western Daily Press editor Andy Wright has decided to retire. Wright has worked in the regional press for 40 years, including 25 years at the Shropshire Star and seven years at the Derby Evening Telegraph. He has been editor of the Daily Press since 2005. Northcliffe also propose to create a centralised subbing hub in Plymouth which will oversee The Herald (Plymouth), the Herald Express (Torquay), and the Express and Echo (Exeter). The changes are part of Northcliffe’s restructuring of its South West division. About 20 subbing posts at Torquay and Exeter and 11 editorial jobs in Bristol are at risk.

Jo Roberts and Louise Jack, former features writers at Marketing Week, have new roles. Roberts is still at Marketing Week but has been promoted from features writer to deputy features editor. This was effective from the start of last week. She still has the same contact details. Jack has left the magazine and started as assistant editor for Marketing Week’s sister website, Pitch, two weeks ago. She will remain based in the same building with the same email address. A replacement for Jack at Marketing Week is currently being sought.

COMPANY magazine’s agony aunt Flic Everett is leaving the title after 12 years in May. Everett will continue freelance work and is currently working for The Daily Mail, Red, Top Sante, Fabulous, The Express, and is acting features editor of Candis. Everett is also working on her own company, Pitch Doctor, which offers PR & journalism training.

Following Philip Scott’s departure from thisismoney.co.uk, Tara Evans has been promoted from trainee journalist to web journalist. In her new role, Evans will cover insurance and consumer issues, including motoring, utilities and holidays. Her contact details remain the same. Scott left the website to join HSBC Global Asset Management as senior media relations manager. Also at the website, Dan Hyde has joined as a trainee journalist and will initially cover pensions, formerly part of Scott’s remit. Alan O’Sullivan, who covers savings, will extend his reach to cover investment. Gillian Bevis will cover O’Sullivan’s former patch of credit cards and loans.

Eleanor Keymer has been appointed features editor at Jane’s Defence Weekly. She takes up her new role on 1 April and is currently editor of Jane’s World Armies, Jane’s World Air Forces and Jane’s World Navies. While Jane’s Defence Weekly provides the latest analysis of global military activity, these three reference titles are aimed at senior personnel in the armed forces as well as governmental and international organisations.

Swiss weekly Femina has appointed Annick Chevillot as editor in chief. She replaces Renata Libal, who will leave at the end of April to join Le Matin Dimanche.

Health & Pharmaceutical

Belgian publisher Rossel, who took over Ma Santé magazine in January, has revamped the title. Ma Santé is renamed Passion Santé and the editorial content is expanded to health and wellness. The editorial team is made up of Michel Marteau, Joëlle Smets, Juan Miralles and Déborah Laurent.
French Psychiatry Association newsletter La Lettre de Psychiatrie Française has changed frequency. The letter is now published eight times a year, instead of 10.
Tendances pour Spécialistes has been renamed Les Spécialistes. The title published by Roularta Medica Belgium is distributed for free to 23,000 specialists doctors twice a month.

Technology & Telecoms

Journalist Alexandre Habian left website NetEco.com.
La Recherche has announced staff changes. Deputy editor Luc Allemand has been appointed editor in chief. Health section editor Sophie Coisne is promoted to deputy editor. Astronomy section editor Hélène Le Meur is now head of department Exact Science. Section editor Franck Daninos has left the team and will not be replaced.

National Press

Swiss Sunday paper Le Matin Dimanche’s editor in chief Michel Danthe is to leave at the end of March. He will be replaced by Le Matin editor in chief Ariane Dayer.

Motoring / Transport & Logistics

Section editor Alain Lefebvre has left L’Automobile Magazine.

Engineering & Manufacturing

Instantanés Techniques has closed. The quarterly magazine now offers a monthly newsletter. Its website Techniques-Ingenieur.fr is updated daily.

Les Nouvelles Fiscales has appointed Stéphane Valory to editor in chief. He replaces managing editor Delphine Taieb who has left.
Journalist Marc Auxenfants will leave PaperJam on 15 April.
Weekly newsletters Bref Rhône-Alpes and Sud Infos have launched a joint website. Info-economique.com will feature economic news for the whole French Southern-Eastern region including Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur. The editorial team is made of journalists writing for the two newsletters. Brefonline.com and Sudinfos.fr will should be closed in the coming weeks.
Intelligence Online will go under the knife in March. The format is expected to change but some sections could be added as well. AfricanIntelligence.fr should be revamped at the end of the year, according to Presse News.
Financial daily Wansquare has recruited journalists Solenn Poullennec and Marie-Amélie Fauchier-Magnan.
The Federation of Swiss Businesses has revamped its magazine. In addition to updating its format and visual identity, Entreprise Romande has introduced two sections: New Techhnologies and Sustainable Development. The magazine now comes out every other week alternately with its electronic newsletter.

LeMagIT.fr publisher E-Magine Médias has signed a contract with American publisher TechTarget. For two years, LeMagIT will have exclusivity in France on TechTarget’s website content.

National Press

Journalist Marjorie Alessandrini is no longer part of Le Nouvel Observateur’s editorial team. The tourism writer has retired.
French Sunday newspaper Journal du Dimanche has promoted Olivier Jay to managing editor in replacement of Christian de Villeneuve.
Swiss newspaper La Tribune de Genève has appointed Judith Mayencourt as section editor. She is responsible for the Switzerland News section.

Fashion & Retail

Kappauf has taken over Citizen K. The group intends to diversify Citizen K’s portfolio by developing its internet and TV activities. Citizen K’s international editions will also benefit from this take over.
Subscription-based Belgian quarterly Textile Living has extended its circulation to newstands.
The French edition of Gentleman Quarterly has been updated for its second anniversary. The monthly title has changed its typograpy and launched its own website. MenStyle.fr has been dropped and replaced for GQmagazine.fr. Condenast is thinking about introducing a free iPhone application
Six months after the launch of Grazia in France, Groupe Marie Claire launches Envy. It is a weekly celebrity and fashion based magazine aimed at 20 to 35-year-old women. Envy has its own website and a mobile application should soon complete the brand. Publisher Marie Claire is aiming for 200,000 issues in France.
Lagardère Active is thinking about launching Be, the print version of its interactive website Be.com
Jalouse is evolving with the creation of new sections on fashion, beauty, art and cinema. The monthly title has also gone for a smaller format.

Health & Pharmaceutical

Elsevier Masson has revamped scientific journal Elsevier Le Journal de Chirurgie. The name is now Le Journal de Chirurgie viscérale and the content includes clinical research articles, scientific, legal and professional news of the specialist area. The journal is also available online in English as Journal of Visceral Surgery.
Editor in chief Isabelle Lopez left Wolters Kluwer France’s monthly magazine Moniteur Hospitalier. She has been replaced by Bertrand Decaudin.

Food & Drink

Vinipresse launches Gilbert & Gaillard Wine International, a quarterly magazine to replace Gilbert & Gaillard. It will be a magazine on an international scale available in 15 countries. It intends to inform wine consumers about trends and new wines. Sylvain Patard has been appointed editor in chief.

Financial Gates, a member of Europe’s top newspaper organization F.A.Z. Group launched its second international magazine, Finance Europe – The European CFO magazine on 22 February. Finance Europe is regarded as the successor of CFO Europe (suspended by the Economist Group) whose sales and key account team are now working in London for the new title. This year it will be published four times and increase its frequency to monthly from 2011.
